Appointment of Coadjutor Archbishop of Ho Chi Minh CityToday, September 28, 2013, The Holy See announced that Pope Francis has appointed Bishop Paul Bùi Văn Đọc, currently Bishop of Diocese of Mỹ Tho, to be Coadjutor Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Ho Chi Minh City and apostolic administrator “sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae sedis” of the diocese of Mỹ Tho.


Bishop Paul Paul Bùi Văn Đọc, 69 years old, was born on November 11, 1944 in Dalat, ordained priest on December 17, 1970 , and appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Mỹ Tho on March 26, 1999.


11.11.1944 : Born in Đà Lạt.
1956 - 1963 : Studied at Saint Joseph Minor Seminary, Sàigòn.
1963 - 1964 : Studied at Saint Joseph Major Seminary, Sàigòn.
1964 - 1970 : Studied at Urbaniana University, Rome.
17.12.1970 : Presbyteral ordination at the Cathedral of the Diocese of Đà Lạt.
1971 - 1975 : Professor, Simon Hòa Minor Seminary, Minh Hòa Major Seminary, University of Đà Lạt.
1975 – 1995 : Rector, Minh Hòa Major Seminary, Diocese of Đà Lạt.
1986 – 2008 : Professor of dogmatic theology, Major Seminaries in Sàigòn, Hà Nội, Huế.
1995 – 1999 : Vicar General of the Diocese of Đà Lạt.
26.03.1999 : Appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Mỹ Tho by Pope John Paul II.
20.05.1999 : Episcopal ordination at the Cathedral of the Diocese of Đà Lạt by Archbishop John Baptist Phạm Minh Mẫn – ordaining prelate. Episcopal motto: “God is my joy” .
27.05.1999 : Installation as Bishop of the Diocese of Mỹ Tho.
