Farewell Thanksgiving Mass for Msgr. Peter Nguyen Van Kham, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Saigon

HoChiMinh City (August 25, 2014) - The Vatican Press of the Holy See has announced the appointment of Auxiliary Bishop Peter Nguyen Van  Kham to be the Archbishop of My Tho Diocese by Pope Francis on the 26th of July, 2014. During his 34 years of priesthood, he spent 6 years as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Saigon. He is a good speaker and a famous preacher that enlivens the faith of the people. He played an important role in the re-building of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Center and the development of St. Joseph Seminary as well.

 

On August 25, 2014, Bishop Peter Nguyen Van Kham presided the Holy Mass at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Saigon City.  It  was concelebrated by Fr. John Baptist Cong Minh, Curator of the Cathedral, Fr. Joachim Tran Van Huong, Director of St. Joseph Seminary, Fr. Peter Nguyen Van Hien, Director of the Pastoral Center and some priests coming from St. Joseph Seminary, Archdiocesan Pastoral Center and from some parishes of the diocese.

Bishop Peter said, “I am only an instrument of God thus I need to depend on His grace to be an affective and effective Pastor as Archbishop of My Tho. So, my dear brothers and sisters, please pray for me as I leave for the new mission God entrusted to me. Whatever joys I may experience here in My Tho would also be the joys of our Archdiocese in Saigon. Whatever success I would reaped in My Tho would also be the success of our Saigon Archdiocese.

 

At the end of the Mass,  Fr.Joseph Vuong Si Tuan, the assistant parish priest of the Cathedral introduced the new book of Bishop Peter Nguyen Van entitled the “Religion of Love” – “Dao Yeu Thuong” as a gift to the laity which is about the life of a missionary.
