Holy Father meets representatives of Churches in Kazakhstan
In the context of his apostolic journey to Kazakhstan, Pope Francis took part on Wednesday 14 September in a plenary session of the “VII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions” held at the Palace of Independence in Nur‒Sultan/Astana.
After his address, the Holy Father met privately with some religious leaders and representatives of the Churches, including His Beatitude Theophilus II, Greek Orthodox Patriarch in Jerusalem; Metropolitan Antonij of Volokolamsk, Head of the delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church and President of the Department for External Church Affairs of the Moscow Patriarchate; Archbishop Urmas Viilma, Head of the delegation of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), Vice‒President of the LWF and Head of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church; as well as David Baruch Lau, Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel, and Yitzhak Yosef, Sephardi Chief Rabbi of Israel.
