The Pontifical Council represented at the Advisory Board of the Möhler InstituteThe meeting of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Johann Adam Möhler Institute in Paderborn took place on 18 March 2021. Cancelled last year due to the pandemic, the meeting was held online this year. The members of the Scientific Board as well as ecumenical guests from Germany and abroad discussed the conference topic “Partial Church/Eucharistic Communion”.

After Archbishop Hans-Josef Becker opened the online meeting as Institute President, Reverend Dr Augustinus Sander, OSB, staff member of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, gave the annual “Ecumenical Report from Rome”. Afterwards, speakers developed the conference theme with short introductions and reflections. The focus was on the statement “Together at the Lord’s Table” by the Ecumenical Working Group of Protestant and Catholic Theologians (ÖAK). As well as discussion on ecumenism between the Catholic and Protestant Churches, the position of the Orthodox Church and the existing regulations with regard to partial Eucharistic communion with some Oriental Orthodox Churches was also considered.
