Catholic-Muslim Dialogue“The Church regards with esteem also the Moslems. They adore the one God, living and subsisting in Himself; merciful and all- powerful, the Creator of heaven and earth, who has spoken to men; they take pains to submit wholeheartedly to even His inscrutable decrees, just as Abraham, with whom the faith of Islam takes pleasure in linking itself, submitted to God… .” Nostra Aetate 3

Pope Paul VI’s vision was that the Secretariat for non-Christians (now known as the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue) would have a special section for relations with Muslims, known as the Commission for Religious Relations with Muslims.

Since its establishment, PCID and its special Commission have developed numerous relationships with Muslim leaders and organizations throughout the world.

Since 1967, PCID has been sending messages to Muslim communities to express good wishes for the month of Ramadan and the feast of ‘Id Al-Fitr. Ramadan is a month of fasting, restraint, prayer, and charity, during which Muslims commemorate, according to their tradition, the giving of the Quran to Muhammad, the prophet of Islam.
