* The Binh Dinh provincial People's Committee and the Vietnam Writers' Association (VWA) jointly organised a number of activities to mark the 100th 100th birth anniversaries of Han Mac Tu and Nguyen Do Cung celebratedanniversary of poet Han Mac Tu, who was born on September 22, 1912.

A music and poetry gala featuring well-known poems by Han Mac Tu and songs about his life took place at the Binh Dinh provincial Cultural Centre on September 20. The VWA also held a workshop on Han Mac Tu's life and career on September 21 with the participation of many writers, poets, researchers and literary critics from across the country.

Han Mac Tu, whose real name was Nguyen Trong Tri, was born in Le My village, Dong Hoi commune, in the central province of Quang Binh and lived in Quy Nhon, Binh Dinh, during the last days of his life. He is considered a pioneer of romantic poetry in Vietnam.


100th birth anniversaries of Han Mac Tu and Nguyen Do Cung celebrated* The Vietnam Fine Arts Association, in co-ordination with the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, held a ceremony in Hanoi on September 21 to mark the 100th birthday of painter Nguyen Do Cung (1912-2012).


Born in 1912 in the Tu Liem district of Hanoi, Nguyen Do Cung was an outstanding student at the Indochina College of Fine Arts, now Hanoi University of Fine Arts, and became one of the greatest Vietnamese painters and fine art researchers of the last century. He also served as a National Assembly deputy during its first tenure.


In 1996, Nguyen Do Cung was posthumously awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize, the highest literary and fine art award in Vietnam.
