Australia's Archbishop Randazzo named Prefect of Dicastery for Legislative Texts

Pope Leo XIV names Archbishop Anthony Randazzo as Prefect of the Dicastery for Legislative Texts, a post previously held by Archbishop Filippo Iannone, whom the Pope named as Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops.

Pope Leo XIV appointed Archbishop Anthony Randazzo as Prefect of the Dicastery for Legislative Texts, the Holy See Press Office published in a bulletin on Wednesday.

Until now Bishop of Broken Bay in Australia and the President of the Federation of Catholic Bishops9; Conferences of Oceania, the Pope has also granted the prelate the personal title of Archbishop.

He succeeds Archbishop Filippo Iannone, whom Pope Leo named as Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops on September 26, filling the position that was held previously by him from January 2023 to May 2025.

Gratitude to the Pope

On his official Facebook page, Archbishop Randazzo wrote, “I am deeply grateful to Pope Leo for the trust he has placed in me.”

He also said that it was a true joy to serve as Bishop for the Diocese, diocesan faithful, and clergy of Broken Bay.

Asking for prayers as he takes on the new challenge, Archbishop Randazzo said, “I remain ever grateful to God, who has entrusted me with the care of His flock.”

The Archbishop will remain in Broken Bay for the next three months as Apostolic Administrator before moving to Rome to begin his new role.
