During the celebration of the Easter Mass at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Fatima, in Mozambique’s Archdiocese of Nampula, Archbishop Inácio Saure called on the faithful to renew their faith in the risen Christ and to live the Easter joy as a sign of hope, conversion, and new life.

Speaking during the Easter Mass, Archbishop Inácio urged the faithful of Nampula to remember that Christ’s resurrection continues to inspire and transform the world. He called on Christians to be living witnesses of hope, truth, and the new life born from the Gospel.

The risen Lord transforms us

Drawing inspiration from the day’s readings, the Archbishop highlighted the testimonies of the Apostles Peter and Paul as well as that of Mary Magdalene, emphasizing that all were profoundly transformed by their encounters with the risen Christ.

Turning to 55 young people baptised during the Easter Mass, Archbishop Inácio reminded them that Baptism signifies a commitment to serve the Church and to live their faith with fidelity. He urged the Christian community of Nampula—including parents, godparents, catechists, and pastoral agents—to support the newly baptised in their journey of faith.

Peace for northern Mozambique

During the homily, Archbishop Inácio also appealed for peace in the region.

Northern Mozambique, particularly the Province of Cabo Delgado, has been plagued by an eight-year Islamist insurgency, which has displaced over 800,000 people. The Archbishop of Nampula called for an end to terrorism and requested prayers for peace and for the many victims of violence in the region.

Present at the Easter celebration was Mr. Plácido Pereira, the Secretary of State for the province of Nampula.
