The Catholic Diocese of Solwezi recently joined the universal Church in the global campaign of 'One Million Children Praying the Rosary for Peace and Unity in the World.' The prayer event took place at St. Daniel Cathedral Parish in Solwezi, the provincial capital of North-Western Province in Zambia.

The Holy Mass for the celebration of 'One Million Children Praying the Rosary for Peace and Unity in the World” was led by the Diocesan Director for the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Solwezi Diocese, Fr. Wilbroad Musonda, who is also Priest-in-Charge of St. Cecilia Catholic Church and Coordinator of the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) / Paralegal Programme.

The Diocesan Education Secretary, Fr. Peter Mobela, and St. Kizito Secondary School teacher Fr. Elicko Chewe Sikanyika concelebrated.

Mary as a model of prayer and trust

Delivering his homily during Holy Mass, Fr. Musonda noted that the day's readings focused on the Blessed Virgin Mary as a model of prayer and trust.

The Priest-in-Charge of St. Cecilia Catholic Church further reminded the children and the faithful to be steadfast in prayer and to trust in the Lord at all times. Fr. Musonda encouraged the children to continue praying the Rosary daily as a powerful tool for evangelization and for building peace, starting in their homes and schools.

Prayers for children suffering war and hunger

The celebration of Mass concluded with the recitation of the Holy Rosary and the offering of intentions for children suffering from war, hunger and lack of education.

The 'One Million Children Praying the Rosary for Peace and Unity' campaign brought together pupils from Solwezi Diocese’ seven Catholic schools, including Tarcisia Floriana Convent School, Bambino Convent School, St. Daniel Primary Convent School, St. Mary Special School, Leonard Cheshire Convent School, Tarcisia Floriana Boarding Convent School and St. Kizito Secondary School, along with their teachers, religious sisters and animators.
