WCBCV -- On Wednesday, October 10, 2012, the assembly began with discussion about the organizing tasks for the 10th Plenary Assembly of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conference (FABC) from November 19th to 25th at two locations in Hồ Chí Minh City and Xuân Lộc Diocese. It is the first time for CBCV to host the FABC Plenary Assembly with around 120 distinguished guests representing all local Churches in Asia. The Church in Vietnam wishes to take this opportunity to welcome the guests with warm hospitality, well organized accommodation, prayerful liturgical celebrations, and festive activities.

The Bishops who represent the Church in Vietnam to attend the upcoming FABC Plenary Assembly also share their presentations with the assembly. Then the assembly discussed the draft of a pastoral letter which CBCV will issue at the opening of the Year of Faith for the Church in Vietnam.

In the afternoon, the organizing tasks for the 10th FABC Plenary Assembly were finalized with particular descriptions. The Bishops also discussed about “evangelization with modern communication forms” which FABC called for consideration. CBCV entrusted this project to Mgr. Peter Nguyễn Văn Khảm, Chair of CBCV Committee on Social Communication, to work with FABC for further actions.

The Bishops also deepened their conversation about the Year of Faith and its celebration. Realizing that there is a pastoral need for the faithful in Vietnam to have a Prayer for the Year of Faith, the Bishops assign Mgr. Peter Trần Đình Tứ, Chair of CBCV’s Committee on Divine Worship to this preparation. Then Mgr. Joseph Đặng Đức Ngân of Lạng Sơn-Cao Bằng and Mgr. Stephen Tri Bửu Thiên of Cần Thơ presented to the assembly some current pastoral issues of less importance.

In the evening, the Bishops convened the meetings in their ecclesiastical provinces with local pastoral considerations.
