Mother of Israeli hostage thanks Pope Francis for his effortsRachel Goldberg Polin, the mother of a hostage held by Hamas, expresses her gratitude to Pope Francis for his ongoing efforts to secure the release of 240 hostages taken from Israel on 7 October.

Rachel Goldberg Polin, mother of Hersh, a hostage captured by Hamas on 7 October, has expressed her gratitude to Pope Francis for his efforts to seek the release of the 240 individuals, including her son, currently held captive.

Ms. Polin acknowledged the Pope's compassion in addressing the plight of those "buried alive under Gaza."

Ms. Polin has become the leader of relatives of hostages taken in Israel and recently presented their case at the United Nations, appealing for support in securing the release of their loved ones.

In a brief video addressed to Pope Francis and recorded by Roberto Cetera of L'Osservatore Romano, she described the hostages as a diverse group of individuals from various religions.

She also emphasised their shared humanity, saying they are "God's Children," and expressed appreciation for the Pope's commitment to reunite them with their families.

Pope Francis has frequently called for the release of hostages held by Hamas and advocated for a ceasefire in Gaza, where the humanitarian situation is increasingly dire.

Hamas made a deadly incursion into Israel on 7 October, killing 1,400 people and taking around 240 hostages.
