Pont. Council for Interreligious dialogue and WCC consolidate collaborationThe annual meeting between officials of the Pontifical Council for Inter-religious Dialogue and the of the World Council of Churches (WCC) took place online from 19 to 20 January 2021.

A statement released by officials of the Pontifical Council for Inter-religious Dialogue (PCID) and the Office of Inter-religious Dialogue and Cooperation (IRDC) of the World Council of Churches (WCC) noted that their annual 2-day meeting took place online and concluded on Wednesday 20 January.

It revealed that besides a mutual update on the activities of their offices in 2020, both sides reflected on effective ways of disseminating the document Serving a Wounded World in Interreligious Solidarity: A Christian Call to Reflection and Action During COVID-19 and Beyond, co-produced during the challenging months of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This latest document, part of a series of joint publications, witnesses to the friendship and collaboration for over forty years in an ecumenical engagement for interreligious dialogue,” the statement reads.

Earlier joint-projects were on Interreligious Marriage (1994-1997), Interreligious Prayer (1997-1998), African Religiosity (2000-2004), Christian Witness in a Multi-Religious World (2006-2011), and Education for Peace (2019).

The statement also noted that “the meetings, held during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, express the commitment of both the Offices to grow in ecumenical communion and intensify collaborative efforts in promoting interreligious dialogue through wider reception and implementation of the documents, in particular, at this last meeting, the document on Interreligious Solidarity. “
