Visit of Metropolitan Antonij of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church

On 1 April 2022, Cardinal Kurt Koch, President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, received His Eminence Antonij (Mihalev), Metropolitan for Eastern and Central Europe of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, and Reverend Ivan Ivanov, parish priest of the Bulgarian Orthodox community in Rome and Milan.

The discussion during the visit focused on the fruits of the Holy Father’s visit to Bulgaria in 2019, the gift of Pope Francis in 2020 of the relics of Saints Clement and Potitus to the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, and the life of the Bulgarian Orthodox communities in Italy and Europe.

During his last visit to Rome in November 2021, Metropolitan Antonij was received in a private audience by the Holy Father.
