(LWI) - The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) General Secretary, Rev. Dr Martin Junge has sent a message of solidarity and condolences to leaders of the LWF member churches in France in the wake of a terrorist attack in the southern city of Nice. 

(LWI) - More understanding of social media tools, and more cooperation between faith communities and civil society is needed to counter the flood of fake news and the subsequent polarization of the public discourse.

Gathered in Saint Peter's Cathedral in central Geneva, Emma van Dorp, a theology student from the Reformed congregation, lights five symbolic candles on the altar as the church leaders affirm the 'wish to make more visible our common witness in worship and service, on our journey together towards visible unity.'

(LWI) - The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) is urging world leaders, meeting at the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on 1 October, to “safeguard the gains made in gender equality and women’s empowerment and to commit to further action.”

The ecumenical Season of Creation lasts from 1 September (Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation) until 4 October (Feast day of St. Francis). This is an invitation to engage in a month of prayer, symbolic acts, and campaigns to give thanks for creation and renew our human vocation to care for it.  

A network of faith-based organizations, including the World Council of Churches (WCC), has released a submission to the Talanoa Dialogue. The title of the submission is: “Respecting Mother Earth and caring for ecological systems, the most vulnerable communities and all future generations.”

Since then, the Conference has developed a strategic approach and implemented an integrated programmatic response to the many socio-economic issues and social ills impacting the Caribbean.

The Bible is especially important in the experience of the Caribbean Churches. Historically, indigenous and enslaved peoples experienced atrocities perpetrated by colonizers who, at the same time, brought Christianity.

Ce thème a été repris dans l’hymne "La main droite de Dieu", écrit lors d’un travail de groupe de la Conférence des Églises des Caraïbes en août 1981, qui est devenu l’"hymne" du mouvement œcuménique dans la région et a été traduit en de nombreuses langues.

The right hand of God that brought the people out of slavery, gave continued hope and courage to the Israelites, as it continues to bring hope to the Christians of the Caribbean. They are not victims of circumstance. In witnessing to this common hope the churches are working together to minister to all peoples of the region...

Churches and Christian communities may also incorporate material from the week of prayer into their own services. Prayers from the ecumenical worship service, the “eight days”, and the selection of additional prayers can be used as appropriate in their own setting.
